Preston County commissioners and economic officials are optimistic about potential economic growth from proposed data centers and are advocating for legislative changes to amend property tax valuations for high-tech businesses.
Recently, commissioners discussed offering letters of support to state legislators for several bills that could benefit the county — one which aims to increase tax revenue through existing high-technology businesses, officials said.
Senate President Randy Smith recently noted several large data center companies are considering doing business in West Virginia, with some looking at Preston County as a potential site. He said the state’s strong power supply makes it a prime location.
