West Virginia proposes 13.5% workers' compensation rate decrease
August 11, 2025
West Virginia employers are projected to save $20 million in workers’ compensation costs starting next year after the National Council on Compensation Insurance filed a proposed 13.5% loss cost decrease.
The proposed reduction, which would be the 21st consecutive year of decreases, would go into effect on Jan. 1, pending approval. Since the program was privatized in 2006, the state’s workers’ compensation market has seen about $501 million in total savings.
“From the start, my administration has been focused on attracting more jobs and businesses to the Mountain State,” Gov. Patrick Morrisey said. “The projected savings on premiums for workers’ compensation insurance helps cut costs for the state’s employers and any companies looking to move or expand into West Virginia.”
