At Preston High School, students learn how an animal goes from the farm to the dinner table, working every step in the process from growing the animal to slaughtering it to butchering it.
12 News took an exclusive tour of the school’s facility to learn more about what these students do every day.
Preston High slaughters around 500 animals a year, a number of them being raised in a field just 100 yards from the processing center.
After it is slaughtered, the animal is then eviscerated, skinned and inspected in one of many checks. It’s then sprayed with vinegar to help prevent E. Coli before being hung in the freezer, where it will stay until the students have a chance to butcher it.
