    How volunteers are essential to Friends of the Cheat’s work

    The non-profit Friends of the Cheat (FOC) has worked for decades in the restoration of the Cheat River, and on Sunday it hosted a maintenance day around the area of an acid mine drainage system in the Cheat Watershed.

    Around a dozen volunteers including members from the WVU Water Ski team were part of the efforts, as well as other community members. FOC received grant money years ago to establish the 19 different treatment systems across the cheat watershed. This location is a large treatment plant that officials said can treat a lot more water than other passive sites.

    FOC Project Coordinator Garrett Richardson explained to12 News the importance of keeping the location clean and clear.
