    BEAD program approval marks major boost for West Virginia internet access

    West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey recently celebrated federal approval of the state’s Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program application, a milestone he called one of the largest economic development initiatives in state history.

    The approved plan includes $546 million to fund 142 deployment projects, connecting more than 73,000 unserved and underserved locations across West Virginia. Additional federal funding tied to non-deployable broadband assets will be determined later under a separate federal rule, which Morrisey said his administration plans to pursue aggressively.
