Preston County robotics teams shine at LEGO League scrimmage

    November 18, 2025

The Kingwood Public Library’s “Kingbots” and the Terra Alta Public Library’s “Terrabots,” both teams in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge, earned top marks out of 20 teams at the 19th annual Mountaineer Area Robotics FIRST Lego League Scrimmage in Morgantown.

The FIRST LEGO League program introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 4-16 through fun, exciting hands-on learning using LEGOs. The program teaches children through the study and application of robotics and offers long-term engagement through its three phases: Discover, Explore, and Challenge.

Program Coordinator and Kingwood team coach Rhonda Taylor said the Kingwood Public library had always wanted a LEGO club and had searched for quite a while. Finally, they stumbled into a coach of another league team who had introduced them to a sponsor, she added.
